Topper-cakes in new wedding scenes

It's increasingly obvious: every concept we used to have about what a family was like twenty years ago has been deeply changed. We can no longer measure the extent of these changes, which are making the "father+mother+children" format redundant, expanding it to father's girlfriends, mother's third husband, son's boyfriend and half brothers and sisters, which are children of the step-dad from a previous marriage. On another note, the cultural, ethnic and stylistic diversity of couples has further accentuaded this phenomenon - we have seen more bilingual and multi-racial families, for instance.
It is estimated that in the state of California alone, gay marriages will move over US$684 million in the next three years. To keep up with such a promissing market, wedding companies have recreated the traditional symbols, in order to adapt them to modern times. The duo with two men dressed as grooms has already become one of the symbols of the law that has made gay marriage in the state of California legal. Women, on the other hand, have also earned their version and can choose a little doll in a wedding dress and the other wearing a suit.
However, what has been the biggest hit all over the globe are the innovative bride and groom in humorous scenes. There are plenty of references to a 'roped' husband (a poor victim of female manipulation) and to brides raising their fists as a symbol of victory. And while we're still on the topic of funny clichés, there is also the groom who is all proped up to go play golf; next to his exhasperated wife, he checks his watch, looking worried.

To keep up with the rising number of black people in higher classes, brides and grooms with darker skin colour are shown in activities that are always associated with white people, such as riding or golf. Actually, it's enough of couples of the same race. Asian grooms are mixed with blonde brides, blonde grooms with Indian brides, caucasians with blacks... The possibilities are endless and you no longer have to purchese a specific duo, you can combine them as you like.
But if what you long for is escaping from the same old materials used (such as porcelain), stores are offering more contemporary sculptures, with cleaner, sleeker lines, as opposed to the usual kitsch. The couple can also be sculpted in metal or wood, all of which are handcrafted. Hard is not finding yourself in one of the options that assure different lovers the respect for differences.
